Liver & Gallbladder Issues
The liver is one of the most crucial organs in the body, responsible for detoxification, metabolism, hormone production, immunity and digestion.
As the largest internal organ located in the upper right side of the abdomen, it filters harmful toxins and waste from the bloodstream, converting them into less harmful, non-toxic forms that can be expelled safely through urine or stool. The gallbladder, a small pea-size organ beneath the liver, stores and releases bile produced by the liver. Bile is essential for breaking down and absorbing fats, and eliminating waste products from the body.
Increased chemical toxin exposure, stress and inflammation can overburden these organs, impairing their ability to function optimally. This can result in a number of uncomfortable symptoms and ultimately increases the risk of disease and chronic illness.
Symptoms
-
Brain Fog & Fatigue
Difficulty concentrating, thinking straight and experiencing mental fatigue can be direct consequences of your body's ongoing battle against toxin accumulation and heavy metals. It may be a sign the liver is overburdened. Chronic fatigue, no matter how much you sleep is also common when elimination pathways are blocked and toxicity levels are high.
-
Acne, Skin Issues & Jaundice
When toxins cannot be eliminated through the liver and colon it is common to see inflamed skin, acne, pimples, redness and breakouts as the body attempts to purge toxins out another detox organ. Jaundice is characterised by a yellowish tint to the skin and eyes. It is a prominent symptom of liver disease and occurs when the liver is unable to process bilirubin properly, leading to its accumulation in the blood.
-
Nausea
Persistant feelings of sickness and nausea can be signs that the body is not coping with it's toxic load and purging toxins may be necessary. Reflux, indigestion and nausea are very common for liver and gall bladder issues. During detoxification, feelings of nausea also indicate the liver is expelling toxicity which is common.
-
Digestive Issues
Bloating, IBS, constipation and diarrhoea are all common signs of liver congestion. When the body cannot eliinate properly, it is common to experience gut issues and give unfriendly bacteria and harmful organisms the upper hand. The recycling of toxins from the bowel back to the blood stream then leads to further complications.
-
Hormonal Imbalances
The liver is responsible for safely eliminating used hormones after they have been fired for their specific purpose. When the liver is sluggish and not functioning optimally, these used hormones can get reabsorbed back into the bloodstream and recirculated. This can lead to hormonal imbalances resulting in painful periods, infertility, mood swings, weight gain, blood clotting, hot flushes, anxiety, low sex drive or swollen breasts.
-
Anxiety & Depression
Poor mental health can be linked to issues with the liver and gallbladder. The gut and brain are directly connected and an increase in feelings of anxiety and depression can be a result of poor liver function. Anxiety is also a common side effect of increased heavy metals in the body.
